Research

In view of the dynamic developments in the Austrian and European higher education sector, which are characterized in particular by the digital transformation and currently by the Covid 19 crisis, the higher education law is also subject to further dynamic developments, which are raising multiple research topics.

In this context, the Center for Austrian and European Higher Education Law and Governance at the University of Graz (ZHR) focuses its research on current questions - raised in particular in the context of the Covid 19 crisis. At the same time the ZHR looks further into fundamental questions, which concern, among other things, the legal framework conditions for efficient and successful studying as well as questions of the legal design of the relationship between the state and the state universities. The focus of the research is hereby on the European and comparative law as well as on an interdisciplinary perspective.

"The academic milieu at and around the University of Graz offers numerous academic references (e.g. to the law on universities of applied sciences, to the teacher training universities, to technology and innovation law, to medical law) and forms - also in view of the Styrian higher education area with its nine universities - an attractive environment for this specialization of research." (From the founding document)
